Ice Mass Balance in Liaodong Bay: Modeling and Observations

چکیده

During the winters of 2009/2010 and 2020/2021, observations were carried out at an eastern port Liaodong Bay to examine variations in sea ice thickness atmospheric conditions. The daily (DIT) cumulative (CIT) are two main observation items related ice. For DIT, gradually decreases as temperature increases, freezing rate a is 1.48 cm/(°C·d)1/2. CIT, when −12 °C, maximum growth from 3.5 cm/d 1.5 increases 0 20 cm. residual method was applied calculate oceanic heat flux, which important parameter modeling, both analytic model (Stefan’s law) numerical (high-resolution thermodynamic snow-and-ice model) utilized this work. It found that accuracy simulation results high coefficient mode 2.3 With flux 2 W·m−2, error approached 60% 2010 3.7% 2021. However, using calculated work, can be significantly reduced 4.2% winter 1.5% 2020/2021. Additionally, showed decreasing trend with increase air temperature.

Patchiness of phytoplankton and primary production in Liaodong Bay, China

A comprehensive study of water quality, phytoplankton biomass, and photosynthetic rates in Liaodong Bay, China, during June and July of 2013 revealed two large patches of high biomass and production with dimensions on the order of 10 km. Nutrient concentrations were above growth-rate-saturating concentrations throughout the bay, with the possible exception of phosphate at some stations. The pre...

Mass balance of the Antarctic ice sheet.

The Antarctic contribution to sea-level rise has long been uncertain. While regional variability in ice dynamics has been revealed, a picture of mass changes throughout the continental ice sheet is lacking. Here, we use satellite radar altimetry to measure the elevation change of 72% of the grounded ice sheet during the period 1992-2003. Depending on the density of the snow giving rise to the o...

Mass balance of polar ice sheets.

Recent advances in the determination of the mass balance of polar ice sheets show that the Greenland Ice Sheet is losing mass by near-coastal thinning, and that the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, with thickening in the west and thinning in the north, is probably thinning overall. The mass imbalance of the East Antarctic Ice Sheet is likely to be small, but even its sign cannot yet be determined. Lar...

Changes in ice dynamics and mass balance of the Antarctic ice sheet.

The concept that the Antarctic ice sheet changes with eternal slowness has been challenged by recent observations from satellites. Pronounced regional warming in the Antarctic Peninsula triggered ice shelf collapse, which led to a 10-fold increase in glacier flow and rapid ice sheet retreat. This chain of events illustrated the vulnerability of ice shelves to climate warming and their buffering...

Charge and mass transfer in ice-ice collisions: Experimental observations of a mechanism in thunderstorm electrification

A microphysical mechanism that may be important in the electrification of thunderstorms is probed in an experimental study of collisional charging of ice surfaces. The study examined mass and charge transfer in single collisions between two ice samples and their dependence on growth, temperature, impact strength, and time delay between impacts. The polarity is consistent with earlier esults in ...
